You do not need a concealed carry permit to possess a handgun for recreational use or home defense. If you have purchased a new handgun, or considering your first purchase, learn the basics before you shoot — handling, operation, safety, and your responsibility under the law.
Basic Handgun Class – Non-Shooting
Our virtual, two hour presentation, delivered to your smartphone, tablet or computer, introduces the major types of handguns, describes how they operate and highlights the pros and cons of each. We also cover important, related topics, including:
- Rules of firearms safety
- Laws regulating handgun ownership
- Shooting range etiquette
- Secure storage
- Grip and stance
- Loading and unloading, and
- Disassembly for routine cleaning.
Shooting Fundamentals (Supervised Range Time)
Family 1st Defense also provides supervised shooting instruction in one hour increments. Students must own approved eye and ear protection, and are expected to be familiar with basic firearm safety and gun handling skills.
Handgun rentals are available for individuals who may not yet have their own. See our Pricing page for more information.
